How can you improve your chances of conception?General health and well being If you have any on-going medical problems like diabetes, hypertension, epilepsy, etc get them checked out by your doctor to be sure they areoptimally controlled prior to pregnancy. Medication you are taking should be reviewed toensure it does not affect pregnancy and to ensure that the dose is appropriate. Cutting down on caffeine, alcohol and smoking is advisable prior to conception and during pregnancy. Work, lifestyle, stress and relationships Moderate exercise every day is important to maintain a healthy body, helping to burn off excess body fat and reducing the effect of stress on hormone levels. For men, it can boost the fertility hormone testosterone. However, it is important that women avoid excessive exercise as this can result in irregular periods.Overheated testicles can temporarily lower sperm counts, so men should avoid saunas, hot baths, sun bathing and tight underwear. Getting good regular sleep of about eight hours or more per night can help both men and women optimize their fertility. Lack of sleep can have a negative effect on hormone levels. Emotional stress has profound effects, including interfering with the hormone responsible for egg and sperm production.
